Mansilla+Tuñón Arquitectos
Madrid, Spain
Luis Moreno Mansilla (Madrid, 1959) and Emilio Tuñón Alvarez (Madrid, 1958) collaborated with Rafael Moneo, directing building works such as the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid: there, in 1992, they founded their own studio.
The two architects have always chosen to dedicate part of their time to teaching and theoretical studies, concentrating their design efforts on a limited number of projects having significant urban impact. Their various works differ in terms of functional programs, typological and formal solutions, but they all share a characteristic, almost enigmatic aura.
Among their most important projects are the Provincial Museum in Zamora (1992-1996), the Documental Centre of the City of Madrid (1996-2002), the Museum of Fine Arts in Castellón de la Plana (1997-2000) and the Barrié de la Maza Foundation (Vigo, 2003-2005). Their two most renowned projects are linked to the city of León: the Auditorium (1996-2002) and the MUSAC (2001-2004). Their most notable ongoing projects are the Cantabria Museum in Santander and the Royal Collections Museum in Madrid.
